I finally had to send my trusty reliable Optacon to Richard Oehm for battery replacement and cleaning. I talked with him last week and I should have my unit back this week.

I would reccomend to Karen that she send her unit to Richard as in addition to the battery needing replacement, the unit may also require some adjustments.

First, it does sound like you have a battery that isn't retaining a charge at all. The little power supply that comes with the Opta doesn't supply enough power to run the Optacon when the battery voltage drops. If you have a Batteries Plus store near you, or a similar store like All Batteries, they can replace the Optacon batteries for less than $50. They are simply large NiCad batteries what are soldered in place.

Otherwise, you will need to send your Opta off to Richard Oehm in California. Last I knew, he charged $95 for battery replacement, plus return shipping.
