Karen,

You really need the optacon documentation and training manuals, and some person to teach you how to read and how to adjust the threshold knob and the other knob; also, the portion you hold in your hand has a zoom button on it; the uppermost adjustment is the largest, and the letters get smaller as you move the button towards the bottom. I would say you really need training on how to use the optacon itself, instead of just diving in without any help.

There is also a button on the back of the machine that, when you push it in, will raise the tone if the battery is fully charged; if the tone is the same, you're still in good shape; if the tone goes lower, you need to plug the machine in and charge the battery for 24 hours. I hope the machine came with a battery charger and some training materials. Optacons are precision machines and just turning it on without any training is like turning on your stove without knowing what it's for and how to use it.

We can't help you with much training on this list because you really need hands-on instruction from somebody who knows how to use the machine.
