First, I'm interesting in seeing what the final device ends up looking like--in terms of changes the UI (User Interface), and what if any materials they prepare for generalized training. I'm assuming by "Kick Start" you mean a primmer? I would also want more data concerning their findings with the different demographics they've used it with as a guide to direction, and non idiosyncratic problems I have encountered. Plus as a totally blind person, I believe I would like to have a sighted partner working on the project--either with orientation and mobility, vision effectiveness training experience, and/or visual arts backgrounds... I also believe the training needs of adventitiously and congenitally blinded persons are going to diverge radically. Have you thought about doing a kickstart or some equivalent? I should think that the researchers would find a longevity study invaluable. Even if they weren't actually willing to pay you for your efforts, if they allowed you to keep the device in exchange for keeping some kind of journal. Perhaps I'm living in some dreamland where the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus live, but it sure would be nice if you could continue to have access to the BrainPort. The amazements come less frequently--and aren't of the grandeur of things like being able to see the moon and clouds, go through a door in full forward motion while using my cane, or watching my hand move toward and grabbing an object, or seeing and playing with a shadow...
