No, you do not need a iMic. I got one because my iBook only has sound out, so that let me have sound in through the USB. It is a good little product and gives you flexibility. I do recommend the Griffin grounding cable. Nero is a Windows product. Haven't tries ADS, saw it at Compusmart before. Toast is awesome as well as the other software mentioned in the articles - it is a personal preference, just try them out as demos.
