I'm going to ask the obvious - have you checked to see if your router has the latest firmware installed? Have you verified all the settings? If you are using WiFi, did you change the default settings? If not (most people don't and I should thank them for the free internet access!) then you could be having interference issues. Try moving to channel 11. And after reading to the bottom I see that you are asking if you need to configure the router... YES! The default settings may work, but they are less than optimum.
