As others have mentioned, venting spent tanks is customary and expected;
the greater danger is leaving them sealed; they might (e.g.) become
overpressurized in the sun and eventually burst. The vented liquids and
vapors are much less of a hazard to other craft than fragments from a
burst tank might be.
