Dear Judy,

I remember you very well from optacon training. I attended in the fall of
1977, and in fact the first day of my training was on Halloween, and TSI
held a pumpkin-decorating contest that day.

I recall that Martha was my teacher for much of the time along with Gail,
you, and Jackie Wheeler.

I attended the course at TSI, staying at the Flamingo, with Ronald Goodman
from New York, Becky from Idaho, Ireen Blum? and Susan Jones. I also
attended with Mike Castner, and we were married around a year and a half
later. He never used his optacon that much, so I always tell people tha I
got an extra optacon and he got a wife.

I used an optacon with a MagCarad machine to do word processing at UC
Berkeley for around five years. I did not use one at my other jobs, but
still use one extensively at home for reading and sorting some mail, signing
things, reading labels and recipes on boxes and cans, and checking words in
books for proofreading books for Bookshare--a volunteer activity. I also
use it for many other small tasks too numerous to mention.

Mike retired in early 2005 and I retired several months later. Life is
good!

It is great to hear from you on this list.

Lori Wyant Castner
