Theoretically, you can write anything for the optacon's serial port and 
hence for the optacon's use in any language and platform as long as you 
follow its signal and ASCII protocols.  Not difficult.  I still have the 
DOS-based software for the optacon 2, and a cable wouldn't be hard to build 
(well, that is, if I have a competent soldering guy or girl with me now). 
Frustrating, that is!  The optacon 2 interface manual is detailed enough and 
well written (one of the few such documents( that it is easily to follow and 
to work with.

What a lot of typos I made in the original!  Sorry.
