I did some testing at Stanford Research with the prototype of the optacon,
and air jets in 1968. I used my left hand to read but wasn't as successful
as I would have liked. I used the airjets on both hands. When I took the
first optacon teacher training class in 1974, I started reading with my
right hand and it was much better.
I learned to use the optacon and teach it at the same time. I started with
the R1B.

I've used a R1C and r1D right handed, index finger for as long as I have
read. Didn't want to wait for TSI to build a left handed unit. Trained at
Palo Alto the summer before Nixon quit - lots of talk around the restaurant
tables about that. So, lots of years.

Hello Anne.
As I'm sure you will know, the advantage of an Optacon II is that you
can use any finger on either hand to read, as the array is open, and
not in an enclosed space as in the Optacon R 1 D, which limits you to
the index finger on your left hand.
