I'm not sure how advanced it is but you can have it intercept mailto:
commands. Preferences: Network: Protocols.

It's bitching at me about a lack of settings but that's because I refuse to
set my e-mail preferences in the Internet Control panel. I've had Netscrape
(the piece of crap that it is) high-jack my e-mail one too many times that I
distrust the Internet control panel as a safe place to store such sensitive
information.
