[optacon-l] Optacon R- versus Optacon II

I'll weigh in here on the side of those who found the Optacon R-1s to be
superior machines. I've never been particularly aware of slower
responsiveness, but I've always been bothered by the mushiness of the
images, and the shorter top-to-bottom dimension of the array took some
getting use to.

I, for one, did not find the longer retina cable helpful, snaking around
from the back of the machine as it did, because I had to keep pushing it out
of the way with the left hand as I read. And it's most often been a problem
with the retina connection that caused me to have to send the machine in for
repairs, most recently to Richard Oehm.

Maybe it just comes down to the fact that as a left-handed braille reader I
found it quite comfortable to use the left index finger for the R-1 arrays
and never had any personal use for the option of using the other index
finger to read.

Judy, welcome to the list.

Happy new year, all. JH
