Good thinking--very true. For one thing, that's the way to tell if you want to read the book. Although I've been misled upon occasion. When I wand in holds at the library, i.e., a computer wand, I see a lot of books. When the title interests me I read the back or the flap, and put the book on my list to read. ON a couple of occasions, when I've gotten the book itself and started to read it, it wasn't as interesting as the cover had made it seem. Caleb Carr's Devil Soldier is one example I remember. He footnoted practically every sentence.
