Sue,
When you say that you aren't aloud to open a text file in word do you mean
that you are in word when you try to open it or not. If you are in word and
go to open and tab till you hear files of type and tell it to look at all
file types and then back tab to the list of files in the directory you
should be able to find and open the txt files. Once word has the file open
then you can save in RTF.
There is also a way to change the file type associations and tell your
computer to open all txt files using word. If you are meaning this sort of
issue. I could find those instructions and forward them to you.
