Sharon, the ipaq or however it is spelled isn't anything like the pacmate. the ipaq is a commercially available pda made by hp. the pacmate is a proprietary device manufactured by fs. I doubt that fs would be interested in developint a tactile display for the pacmate. they had that chance a few years ago, and canceled the project to develop a new optacon. by the way charls, the approach that you have suggested is essentially what oleg is doing with the p2rd. he uses a standard digital camera, either a 7 megapixel or 8 megapixel camera, users choice, and plugs it into an off the shelf pda. the only thing missing on his machine, is the tactile display like the optaco has. he claims he is still developing a display, but no info on what it will be like. he doesn't say if it will be like the one he originally talked about, the one that uses relatively widely spaced braille dots, or if it will be more like the optacon display. he does say, his device can be connected to a braille display as it stands now. phil To unsubscribe at any time, just send a message to: optacon-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" (without the quotes) in the message subject.
