I don't know. I haven't had to read them upside down, but, say if you are
marking an appliance, which I have done using the optacon, the best OCR
won't help you there.

I think it is trickier than that -- not just with a cell phone.
Some displays can't be read very well at all without the special display
lens.
I find now that services such as Aira are more convenient and easier to have
a display read than trying to lug the Optacon up and trying to read it
upside down.

Yes it can, but it gets tricky with the cell phone, because the screen
changes with the touch.
Where this has come in handy is when for whatever reason voice hadn't
worked
on my phone, and I could tell if the screen is up.
On a flip phone, one time, I used it to check special characters in a
password when I didn't have speech.

The contrast that the Optacon II reads is on computer screens. It doesn't
read print any better than the R1D and most usere find it more difficult
to fine-tune. When I tried adjustinng the print quality, usually the text
disappeeared altogether. But anyway, you would not find an improvement
readinng cans and boxes.
