Hi all!
I use an Android app called Speak!
I can quickly scan what is on all of my devices, including the computer to the
stove!
It is getting pretty nice to scan with these phone apps!
I mentioned this more in another post!
I will never give up my Optacon, but it is making me feel better than I can use
phone apps to scan mail, packages, labels, and many other things that I could
not use a computer and openBook to scan!

A note here about reading present-day computer screens. Recall,
Microsoft makes them more programmable than they once were. If you're on
a Windows 7 machine, then the type of screen configuration you'd need to
read it with the Optacon II and CRT lens would be called "Windows 7
Classic." That would give you maximum contrast and maximm brightness.
The drawback is: You can read that screen but you can't manipulate it
with the mouse simultaneously since the CRT lens is there in the place
of the mouse. This gets back into what I wrote earlier that the
earliest releeeeeeeases from Canon did have a way to simulate a mouse on
the Optacon II. I never developed it. Perhaps someone else on this list
knows more about it. As to whether you can read other screens, you
should check the Archives of the list. I recall someone mentioned he/she
read a VCR programming screen with the Optacon II and CRT Lens.

The contrast that the Optacon II reads is on computer screens. It doesn't
read print any better than the R1D and most usere find it more difficult
to fine-tune. When I tried adjustinng the print quality, usually the text
disappeeared altogether. But anyway, you would not find an improvement
readinng cans and boxes.
