I honestly don't know how these internet fund raising groups work, except
that the two people here who are now in Windsor and run their translation
company from there figured it out without me knowing, and they portrayed
themselves as working for this project as they had said they wanted to do.
If one could start of some kind of fund raising effort, and also set
something up so we would be held accountable legally, I don't see why it
couldn't work
At the least you will need documentation from me.
I know a neighbour in our building here who did raise money in this way to
by a special plush electric scooter which is not a luxury for him,as he is
slowly giving out, and he did it in 15 minutes. This was for personal
needs, but the optacon III is of international scope, patents and all.
I wish there were a list of way to raise money, the rules and the procedures
and the pitfalls.

Hey Chuckers, bet we could get the money in Winnipeg. So, what do I
need to start? BRING IT ON!

Unfortunate, that. I've seen this kind of thing before, and I certainly
cannot find fault with the now dispanded group. Not at all. They were
just
being careful and responsible. However, as I wrote, never again will a
comprehensive group be assembled in Ottawa. Well, if the million was not
assigned for optacon research (and I had planned to approach them and
request that it also be used for further tactile output research), the
good
thing is that the two people did not get their insecure-oriented hands on
it. They ended up rasing money on the internet through some funding
scheme,
and cheating a businessman here out of $35 thousandthis whilst spending
freely as if boundaries and planning did not matter. Not on bad things;
just
on what makes no sense in their position. That's a hell of a way to run a
business.

I hope Go Funding would help. In a normal business venture, one usually
has
to have some capital and/or collateral, then maybe loans can be
forthcoming.
I don't know how it could work, if some sort of foundation or agency could
be established in order to apply for grant money -- way complex for me.
Best from,
Carolyn

Judy, I am replying to the list on purpose.
As you might have seen from the list, Chuck and I know each other a
little.
We met in 1991 when I was starting my Business called E.Y.E.S.
(Entering Your Ear systems.) At the time, he was most interested in less
expensive Braille devices and I believe some type of less expensive
display
for the optacon.
There's an expression my mother used on occasion, "once burned, twice
shy."
I believe some of us, if trusted, could help perhaps through a well
designed
and controlled "Go Fund Me" campaign.
I think a bigger problem with all the cop-out and escape routes available
to
a too stagnant blind and visually impaired population would be to convince
them of the total value and flexibility of the Optacon but the intended
newer model has wider possibilities built on today's technology.

While I applaud Charles' knowledge and others with the engineering
talents I certainly don't have, are there others on the list with
marketing talents and contacts? The reason I am asking is because we
have been Talking about this new optacon, which is good, but is there
any forward momentum to the talk? Just curious.
