Well, at the time of this nonsense in Ottawa, a million dollar grant was on
the table for the optacon project, but once the engineering and financial
group became spooked because of the two people who were supposed to handle
all things non-technical, the group understandably withdrew the million.
Unfortunate, that. I've seen this kind of thing before, and I certainly
cannot find fault with the now dispanded group. Not at all. They were just
being careful and responsible. However, as I wrote, never again will a
comprehensive group be assembled in Ottawa. Well, if the million was not
assigned for optacon research (and I had planned to approach them and
request that it also be used for further tactile output research), the good
thing is that the two people did not get their insecure-oriented hands on
it. They ended up rasing money on the internet through some funding scheme,
and cheating a businessman here out of $35 thousandthis whilst spending
freely as if boundaries and planning did not matter. Not on bad things; just
on what makes no sense in their position. That's a hell of a way to run a
business.

I hope Go Funding would help. In a normal business venture, one usually has
to have some capital and/or collateral, then maybe loans can be forthcoming.
I don't know how it could work, if some sort of foundation or agency could
be established in order to apply for grant money -- way complex for me.

Judy, I am replying to the list on purpose.
As you might have seen from the list, Chuck and I know each other a little.
We met in 1991 when I was starting my Business called E.Y.E.S.
(Entering Your Ear systems.) At the time, he was most interested in less
expensive Braille devices and I believe some type of less expensive display
for the optacon.
There's an expression my mother used on occasion, "once burned, twice shy."
I believe some of us, if trusted, could help perhaps through a well designed
and controlled "Go Fund Me" campaign.
I think a bigger problem with all the cop-out and escape routes available to
a too stagnant blind and visually impaired population would be to convince
them of the total value and flexibility of the Optacon but the intended
newer model has wider possibilities built on today's technology.
