Hi, Sandra: I started using the Optacon in 1975 when I started working at the Oklahoma Library for the Blind and they had 2 of them. I have used one ever since. I luckily was given one when I lived in Plainview, Texas and still have it. I also bought another one recently, because the battery and at least the retinal cable need to be repaired on mine, and I couldn't afford the whole cost right then. I bought another one and ended up having to get something fixed on it, but it was worth it. I still use it for many of the same things you and most of us do.
