None of the hard drive camcorders will work without the 'Black box'. This adapter converts any video signal to digital via firewire, fooling iMovie into thinking a $3,000 firewire camera is connected. Firewire 800 is also being scrapped for USB 3. This is a step in the right direction to bring the cost of peripherals down for Macs. After all, the 'U' stands for universal.
