One other thought... try doing a basic system reinstall ("hide" the existing
system folder (move the Finder out of the main level of the system folder,
and rename the system folder), install a new OS 8 (or 7 if you so desire)
and try connecting to AppleShare servers (OS 7, 8, 9, or X)).
