I learned it by looking up everything in the unicode tables. What also helped a
lot was writing common symbols (numbers, punctuation, and so on) in a braille
file, then translating it to computer braille. That way, I knew what I was
looking at and could figure out what the new symbols meant since I knew the
grade 2 equivalents.
