Okay, I just tested the new setting. It has been so long since I adjusted the settings - I think since I set it up in the first place - that I forgot how to save the settings. You do it a bit differently than in most programs. So I was about to report back that it didn't help at all. But then I decided to look at that setting one more time and it had reverted to default. That is when I remembered that I had to save the settings separately from the settings dialog I was in. I did that and closed Open Book and restarted it to be sure. The new setting had then saved. I tried scanning a page from the book that I was told was one long paragraph, Lost River, and all the paragraph breaks do seem to be there now. I very much hope Beverly can fix the scan I uploaded again with a hold for her because on these last several books I did something I really hate to do. I have a revulsion for purposely damaging books, but these were very thick mass market paperbacks with extremely tight margins, so I finally gave up and started tearing one page out after another and scanning them one at a time. I will have to admit that I get a much better scan that way with very few scanning errors and I don't miss text due to tight margins, but I anguish with every page I remove. The books are now held together with rubber bands and if I had to rescan them the job would be much harder than the first time around. Having to keep a bunch of loose pages in order would be a horrendous job.

    It's really frustrating.

I spent four days last week fixing problems caused on our laptop
by a daily windows update that biffed settings on other software.
The most useless part of that time was on direct calls to

ever since I got this version of Open Book. That would have been when I
upgraded to Windows 7 and found out that my earlier version of Open Book

time I have scanned many books that are now in the Bookshare collection.
So why did this problem crop up just recently?
