I’m sorry to report that your idea for a fix isn’t going to work. That’s
because the entire file is littered with these extra spaces; as near as I can
tell, the scanning software gave you a double space at every line break--that
is to say, at the end of every line of text, even mid sentence.
I found some images of the printed book online, so I can see where the
paragraph breaks go. I scoured the scanned file for clues that would match up
explicitly with these breaks, and they simply aren’t there.
I’m so sorry not to have a better report. I’ll have to reject this scan again,
as you suggest.
