There's a piece on Morning edition on NPR this morning on this topic...not blindness and sleep disorder, but on people who say they only need 4-5 hours of sleep. They are predicting that 20 years from now, we'll look at depriving ourselves of sleep like smoking in terms of how harmful it is to our bodies and to others when it causes us to make errors due to lack of concentration. Later today, you should be able to find it on their web site www.npr.org. Though I have some pretty disturbed sleep patterns caused by blindness and now perimenopause, I never claim to only need 4-5 hours of sleep. I need at least 7.
