Lissi, Try clicking on the rectangles and see if there is a large blue or black space, if you can tell. Whether or not you can see it, open Format, click on paragraph, and see if there's a number other than zero in the spaces under Spacing, Before and After. I've found that when I make those zero, those blank spaces where there were pictures that didn't scan go away.
