hello Mary and all,
I quite agree with you, Mary.
I worked for IBM as a translator. I had to do with text processing, rather
than programming, but the problem was the same. I needed to check the
screen in real time.
I worked with main frame terminals all te time, and stayed at home just
after the first pc (an XT) had landed on my desk. IBM had bought me a
braille display, which was undoubtedly useful, but I still preferred to
work with my Optacon.
then, here at home, I started using the brailledisplay on our pc (my
husband complained that the Optacon would ruin the monitor glass), and I
must say I really suffered. Not having a real picture of the screen
reduced my understanding of how Windows works, for examle. In addition, I
never realy learned the meaning of certain braille symbols, which really
made it very hard for me to catch up.
I thought that with faster computers it wouldn't be too easy to adjust the
crt lens module, but now you're encouraging me to take it up again.

By the way, Mary, can I also write to you off list? It would be nice to
correspond with an IBMer...
Cheers,
Olga
