Hi Carolyn!
Yes, the R1D is wonderful. Optacon II isn't as detailed. Very small text is
hard to read. I can read just about any size with the R1D.

I’ve had iPhones for 8 years now and it only took me a couple of days
to get comfortable with the touch screen. However, I am completely in
the Apple ecosystem having a MacBook Air and all the other computers in
the house being Macs. I also teach Mac OS and iOS here in France.
My iPhone is my library, my Gps, my barcode reader, my OCR, and many
more things. However, if I had to choose just one device to help me
overcome the problems of being totally blind, that device would be my
optacon, and in particular, my R1D.
Cheers,
Anne

With my feature phone with actual keys, that is not a problem. It just
seems to me that people put up with too much hassle, which must be
worth it to most people, but not to me. I am not a one to tolerate
unnecessary problems.
