It works great and is very precise as long as you know for sure the exact
line boundaries of the window you are trying to label. I have done this
trick on several labeling projects.

I have used my Optacon on a few pieces of home electronics. A few years
ago, I read out one line at a time on our microwave, and Debbie and I
figured out the braille characters she would write so that we labeled by
writing a whole line at a time. I decided to do a line at a time so that
moisture and oil from fingers would be less likely to undercut the sticky
tape of a whole line than it might if we had made each button's label its
own piece of tape.
Before we began writing labels, I held a slate against the display and
counted the cells over which a label strip could run. I confirmed my count
by taking an index card and writing a line of braille letter L's. It was
extremely easy and accurate to count the number of L's that would fit inside
the borders of the display. The framing around the display was such that I
got a more accurate count with the card than I did with the slate.
In cases where I didn't make stick-on labels, I have often used my Optacon
to read out portions of a panel in order to make a braille chart of the
controls. That was my approach on my Alesis Drum Machine. Certainly the
Optacon made that task possible for me when an app on the iPhone wouldn't
cut it. I would have needed to mask off areas of the panel to leave the
controls for an iPhone to see, but that would be quite a hassle.

Hello Dan.
I see no reason why an Optacon can't be used to locate positions on a
microwave, when it would then be possible to put your own
markings in Braille. I did this with a washing machine and a
cooker.
