I was there in July of 1973. Hard, fulfilling work. More than one
coffee and pie at the motel restaurant at 10:00 at night! Today that
would keep me up all night!

Many years ago, it was advised that you should not use an
Optacon
unless you had been trained by an expert. Our public
library in
Manchester didn't realise this and they bought four Optacons
back
in the 1980's for customers to use. I was the only Optacon
user
and when it was suggested that people could teach themselves
it
was frowned upon by the Optacon teachers who I knew. Apart
from
the two instructors who taught me in London, I knew a local
lady
here in Stockport who also trained to be an instructor. I
think
the Optacons at the library were hardly ever used. They
had two
Kurzweil machines at the library, and I also used those
regularly.
Have you previously used an Optacon? If not, it would be
interesting to see how you go on.
I was trained to use an Optacon in 1982, and it is still
something which I use every day.
