The part you move across the type is called the camera unit. It comes in two parts, a retina module and a lens unit. The two units can be snapped apart by push in and twisting. On the part of the retina module that was inside of the lens module are two contacts that mate with corresponding contacts inside of the lens module. These contacts conduct power to the lamps in the lens module. You need to break this circuit to turn off the lamps. You can do this by placing a small thin non conductor, such as a small piece of tape, on one of the contacts and re-assembling the retina module and lens unit.
