You got that right! Wouldn't be without one, you never know when you would
need it.
The only person that takes checks only, that I know now, is the wonderful
lady who does my hair.

I used to have these cubes with rubber print letters on them.
I also carry around a check-writing guide, and I use it. I don't write as
many checks as I used to, but it still comes in handy.

When I was quite small, my parents had gotten a book with raised print
letters for me. They were large enough so you could feel the letters, and
that's how I started learning my print letters. Dad would show me anything
from license plates to logos on appliances that were raised, anywhere we
went and he saw a learning potential. As a little kid, it was like a game,
and I was eager to figure them out, and that is how I learned my print
letters and numbers at first. The first instance of print I remember was in
the old Braille Series books, and I think that one was the first volume.
I still carry a check writing guide in my wallet, and there was a day, back
in the 80s and 90s when I wrote way more checks than I do now. I printed
out checks, as my signature is better than my cursive for regular writing,
as I don't use it enough, but my printing is okay. I check myself from time
to time with the optacon.
I also learned to line up checks and type them on the typewriter when I was
in high school, and over the years, through checking with the optacon, have
made variations in the spacing to accommodate. My husband and I used to pay
bills by typing out checks before the internet.

At the Royal National College, the piano tuning students were taught to
write their names as they would need signatures for signing their receipts,
etc, but we typing students were not.
I have never had my stamp refused, but on one occasion I had a dealing with
a court, and the judge would not accept my form, not
because of the stamp, but because I couldn't handwrite the date.
I had typed it in. Fortunately, this case was not a serious one
so I didn't pursue it. On other occasions when I have been
involved with courts, there have been no problems. It was just
that particular judge who was not happy.
