Fortunately I haven't experienced your problem as yet.  I would first 
go to the MacFixit website.

See what experiences others have had and what remedies they suggest.   
As a longer term solution you may need to get a disk repair utility 
like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior which may be able to recover your 
files.  And then there is always backup :(
