On OSX.5.7
From PDF "File", Right click "Print", Click on Blue Arrow next to
Printer type. Under the Orientation, Click on the next Drop down menu
to "print settings", check "toner save mode".
From Safari, Right click on "print" Under the "Orientation" should be
another drop down menu, click on "Print settings", check "Toner save
Mode" box.
On Word, Under Standard Preset, third dropdown menu, click on "Print
settings", check "Toner save mode".
It works for me. If it doesn't work for you, it is probably because
you are using an earlier version of OS X. Good luck.
