If your needs for a pda encompass only caching related stuff, 'cheaper is
better' probably is the best way to go. You can get a good idea for how
others are using pda's in caching by searching on the geocaching.com forums
for 'paperless' and/or 'pda'.

Though my first pda was a Palm OS based device, I've been using a PocketPC
for a couple years now and like it well enough. Beyond just caching related
s/w, the PPC platform has a pretty good selection of other mapping/gps
related s/w. Palm may as well, but I've lost touch with the possibilities
there.
