Not looking to get rid of anything, 'but'........

How are you going to connect the Tosh to your GPS?

You may want to buzz thru the forums at http://www.gpspassion.com. Several
of the more popular PPC based street navigation apps maintain 'official'
support forums there....Mapopolis being one of them. If you have questions
about the demo, I'm sure they can be answered there.

At the same site, there is a discussion forum for topo s/w as well (though
they refer to it as 'Off Road', I think). The ones most commonly mentioned
are OziExplorer (or whatever the ppc version is called), Pocket Navigator (
the one from maptech.com, not 'PocketMap Navigator', a street nav app from
Space Machine), Outdoor Navigator (also from maptech.com), and Memory-Map.

I've heard good things about the OZ app, but it's also my understanding you
have to go find your own maps and then spend time dinking around getting
them to 'register' in the application....or some such. Me being the lazy
bugger I am, the last bit sounded a lot like 'work' to me, so I never
bothered to explore it much.

Pocket Navigator from MapTech is a *very* nice product. But you do have to
buy their maps to use with the program. And though the maps are also *very*
nice, they are rather expensive @ generally $100/pkg. A 'package' generally
being a single state or some special group like all US Nat'l Parks.
Occasionally, they do offer nice sales for as much as 50% off some packages.
The other nice thing about this solution is that each 'package' comes with a
copy of their 'Terrain Navigator' app for the desktop. Nice and very easy to
use.

Outdoor Navigator is the most intriguing of the bunch, IMO. They're offering
it as a subscription service much like Mapopolis does for street stuff. For
$99 the first year you get the app and as many maps as you want/can dl.
There is a demo available of it from http://www.outdoornavigator.com. The
initial release of the s/w itself was somewhat lacking in features, but they
have just today released a new version. If it addresses some of the missing
features, I'd be very tempted to subscribe.

Memory-Map I don't know much about. It's a UK based company, and if you
visit their site, most of their map offerings seem to be UK based. But their
prez has visited the GPSPassion forums on several occasions, and alluded to
the availability of US based maps as well. Poking around on the site a bit,
I didn't see much US based stuff, but could easily have missed it.
