Hi Scott,
I too am using the latest download for OpenBook 7. I've never encountered a
problem as far as I know, but I've not checked my files that closely after
conversion to RTF. When I scan I always use the ARK format until I'm ready for
submission, then I save using RTF.

I'm obviously not answering your question, because I'm at a loss, I know OB
has some issues because it just needs an overhall, but I've never encountered
this before.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] strange occurrence with rtf file

  Hi folks,

I just downloaded a book from Bookshare with plans to validate. It was an
Arkenstone file, which, in fact, I originally scanned with Openbook. I
unzipped the folder with no trouble, opened the .ark file in Openbook, and then
used save as to save the file as a .rtf file. When I opened the .rtf file to
spellcheck and otherwise proofread, multiple previously unseen characters
appeared. For example, all the quotation marks had become rquote, those
letters exactly as you see them. I also saw many instances of \par \par. I
went back and looked at the .ark file in Openbook, and none of those things
seem to be present. Still being fairly new to this art, I wonder if there's
some simple explanation for this which I have not yet learned. The .rtf file
by the way, opens in MS Word ... should that make a difference?

Anyhow, I am rather perplexed and thought if anyone would know, someone here
could supply the answer.

  Thanks,
  Scott Blanks
