I know it needs to be worked on at a technical level. My suggestion is just a quick fix in case a specific person needs this book for a class.
I also thought the point of the grant is producing education-related texts.Surely bookshare will have to deal with production of math and technical symbol if bookshare plans to produce books about science, economics, statistics, mathematics and a myriad of other books for the educational component of bookshare.
Perhaps staff will weigh in on the discussion. It seems a crucial discussion to me.
