Kenneth, this topic has been discussed already:
1. Page numbers and headers may be stripped by the reviewer only after
performing a thorough page integrity checked, that is after the reviewer
has determined that there are no missing nor duplicated pages, nor
spurious blank pages.
If headers and page numbers are removed before performing the page
integrity check, you are left without a verifiable audit trail.
2. If the book contains an alphabetic index, you may want to consider
stripping headers, but leaving page numbers intact. In this situation
you may actually want to correct page numbers that have been corrupted.
3. As the bookshare automated stripper my not leave page numbers in
anyway, you may want to attempt to defeat it by not leaving a blank line
between the page number and the bodytext, in any book where you believe
page numbers are of value to the reader.

The stripping of page numbers raises some interesting questions. First,
we
are required to supply the indices of books, but they are not of much
value
if we can't determine the location of a given page. Second, with page
numbers stripped, how do we know if there are omitted or lost pages?
