Robert's right. It takes about 7 seconds to scan and then there's a lapse of about 5 seconds for turning the page and getting the book down for the next scan if you don't go in and add additional pause time. I use it with both Kurzweil and FineReader, and it works like a charm. But the reason I really think it's all that and piece of chocolate, is its design which allows for placing the book at the edge of the scanning surface and getting a good close scan of the page without pressing it face down on the bed and breaking the spine of the book. I like this feature so much, that I often scan single pages instead of two-page mode even if the book will easily fit two pages at a time on the bed of the scanner. Of course, I still do some books in two-page mode, especially very small paperbacks, but using the edge of the scanner for scanning a single page really gets an excellent scan every time. I hope I'm explaining this adequately. Let me know if you have questions. I can do at least 8 to 10 pages as it is reading two pages, probably 4 turns to the two it is currenting reading. I really, really, really like my OpticBook 3600. It costs $255 from Tiger Direct/Amazon.com, so that's a little higher than you wanted to spend. You'll get other good recommendations, I'm sure, but I love this one! I had an Epson 3170. I was not too happy with it because it heated up after approximately 100 pages and I would have to turn it off to let it cool. But still I was dealing with it. Now it makes funny noises and says scan failed. I don't think it can be resurrected. I'd like something that scans 15 secs or less. I probably can spend about $200. I'd prefer to spend less though. *grin* This is really bad timing for the scanner to die. I have been motivated to scan. Thanks for the advice. ***** Grace Please sponsor me in the march for independence, Walk for Opportunity in Dallas Texas. Any amount will help, no matter how small.
