Hi Rick:

I just wanted to let you know that there's a tip on Jake's site on protecting chapter title and other subheaders.
I found that this method works well.

There have been times that the stripper takes out pages like Part 1 etc.

Thanks, Cindy.
I don't know much about the stripper.
Just the old record I had in the 1960's by David Rose. It was a big hit.
Razza ma tazzy big brass and drums. (grin)

Okay, I'm glad to hear that putting the word chapter in front of the chapter
number sounds okay.

question

I have put the word chapter, though not in all caps,
on the line before the number, in order to protect the
number from the automatic stripper. I also go down
several lines and sometimes, if the book does, put the
chapter number mid-page. But if the stripper is
stripping that word, I'd be happy to put the word
chapter in front of the number, too. I wouldn't think
it a problem, since we close up hyphenated words at
the ends of lines and pages.

From a stripper point of view, I don't understand why
the stripper strips the numbers, since they are
different, but no one really undrstands the stripper.
Maybe when Jennifer starts work the stripper is one of
the problems she can solve.

When Empire Falls is approved, Jill, please if you
think of it, drop me a
line or post to the list. I would indeed like to
read that last 50 pages or
so.

Just about done with Mohawk. Excellent scan!

Question:

When I read a book with chapter numbers just listed
as numbers, I find that
speech just flips on by and I miss that I have begun
a new chapter.

Is it okay to put the word CHAPTER in all caps in
front of the chapter
number?
It seems as a reader I would like it very much. But
I am wondering if it is
something that would be considered too much
tampering.

Thanks.
Rik

I was the submitter of Empire Falls and wrote to
Bookshare a couple of weeks

ago about it as it was submitted in either September
or October. I have
three books waiting under the same conditions. I
especially referred to
Empire Falls in my letter; since this is a Pulitzer
prize winner, I think it

is a shame to have only a fair copy in the catalog.
Since Bookshare
encourages the rescan of fair books, one would think
they would be approved
sooner, but I have had several books approved since
the three I referred to
were submitted. Jill
