So far as I know, yes early aborts are usually considered bad. You
generally don't want the abort close to the pad. Given a situation where
the vehicle is already effectively lost, you want primarily to minimise
damage to the pad. It's desirable to turn off automatic aborts completely
until the vehicle has moved away, and manual aborts are undesirable.
