Just add on a tiny extra suggestion or two here. Smile.

Silicone baking mats, can be had from many different places, Amazon, Ebay,
or even from your local houseware store, or places like Wallmart and
dollarstores might have them in stock as well. They come in many sizes, and
like Mary said, get one that is about 9 by 13 inches (22 by 32 cm). This is
slightly bigger than a full page, but you will appreciate that tiny extra
space. Yet, if you want, you can even get mats that are twice the size, in
each direction. If you are planning on reading books, maybe you want to pick
up a mat that is wide enough, to cover the whole book, even when it is
opened. So, why not take the full benefit, and get yourself a couple of
differently sized mats? Smile.

Silicon mats, I have been using for anti-sliding projects, like put one on
your kitchen counter, and your bowl won't slide around, when you whip the
cream. Or, you might find it useful underneath your dinner plate, under your
keyboard, or beneath any other object that tends to slide. OK, that one was
out of scope for this list, just threw it in here, first we talk about a
product that really is an aid in daily living.

You can get different thicknesses, diferent colors, and with or without
pattern. So, you should be able to get what suits you. Smile. I have
experienced that some mats tend to collect dust, more easily than others.
One suggestion here, could be to wipe the mat, with a damp cloth with a drop
or two of fabric softener. This will ensure no static on the mat, which
often is the cause of dust collecting.

Silicon can be twisted, rolled, or pretty much tucked in anywhere. So if you
are planning to use it with your Optacon, and you want to bring it along
when going for a vacation, it can fit in even in rather cramped places. It
usually is rather light-weighted as well, unless you picked up one of the
thicker mats.

Finally, if anyone of you out there, are ready to want a more silenced
Optacon, here is something that at least might soften the sound slightly in
some cases. Unfortunately, it is not much, and it may not make any
difference for some users, but I will give it out anyway, and you use it for
what it is worth. If you usually put your optacon right on the tabletop, it
often will sound rather sharp, from the vibrating array. This due to the
fact, that the vibrations will go down into the tabletop material, and be
amplified; much like the main body of a guitar, will amplify the vibrations
from the strings of the instrument. Now, if you put something between the
optacon and the tabletop, you might at least soften the sound a bit. Those
of you, who are using the optacon inside its original leather case, will
maybe know the diffrence from operating the optacon without that casing. But
if you do not have a leather case, or want to operate your optacon without
the case, a silicon mat - preferably one of the thicker ones - will ensure
the vibrations will not be transfered to the table surface. And, then you
also have prevented your optacon from sliding around. Smile.
