Hi Don, Just to catch up on Maureen's comment, I do know how these auto responders can be a pain in the neck, however when you set them up, it is often quite difficult to avoid them going out to lists. As a list owner and moderator myself, I've also seen them cause total chaos when they effectively respond to themselves and hundreds of messages appear, each longer than the previous one. However, good, modern, up to date "Out of Office" systems, such as in Outlook with Exchange Server, should in fact default such that only ONE response is sent to any one message sender or list. I do hope you will forgive that one message. On the other hand, I do quite agree that, "return Receipt Messages" should only be used on a specific message basis, and not for every single message someone sends out. That's virtually akin to sending every letter you write through the postal system by Recorded or Registered Post. The irony is that if every single list member were to actually confirm receipt, the sender would soon enough start to complain at receiving 100 or more confirmations. All the best, George. -----Original Message----- From: optacon-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:optacon-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Don Bishop Sent: 18 November 2004 01:45 To: optacon list Subject: out of office messages Sorry folks, Just saw the auto reply message being sent to people's personal mailboxestriggered by one of our members. Naturally this has to happen when there is actually some traffic on the otherwise quiet list. I'll do what I can to stop this annoying situation in the short-term. Also, effective immediately, anyone sending these kinds of automatically generated "out of office" messages will have their mail from the list immediately suspended if possible, or if not, they will be unsubscribed. The same holds true for "return receipt requested" messages. I'm certain this was done accidently, but it can be very irritating to other list members and you may be surprised to know that our list now has over 100 members. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
