I would never have thought of doing that to pack my optacon. For my R1D, I have it's original pack, but I am not sure what I did with the one for the Optacon II. It's around this old house somewhere, but the somewhere is the problem. Those padded computer cases aren't that expensive even if you have to purchase one to do it. I wonder if in a pinch you could use one of those really well padded envelopes packed in a box? I do like the computer case idea lots.
