Hello richard Turner if you are still reading. I understand your
point. Unfortunately such things are common enough and increasing in
general. On this list it has been the same few people. I had cracked
open the optacon III project files just a few weeks ago after my health
had been somewhat stablized for now, and with intentions of finishing up
on a volunteer basis the optimizing of the prototype -- certainly the
display. And this flak and nonsense is what I meet. The amount of $10
to $13 thousand I gave (I think it was you who had sensibly asked) is in
fact pretty close; so, whoever thinks differently because they "have
read a lot" does not know. I just gave the $ number on list, and it was
a mere response (like saying the temperature outside) to your sensible
inquiry,, not a scam as several insist. Most of the heavy lifting for
development and thousands of dollars in costs (from my pocket and I have
never solicited anyone let alone tried to scam anyone) has already been
done, so the rest is refinement and improvement with no major
surprises. As it is now, the technology works fine, but with room for
refinement. As of this writing I will no longer work on an optacon III
project for anything other than my own needs here., and I will publish
and circulate no engineering data. that is it. No doubt several bored
people will come up with some weird explanation and think waht they
will. As I wrote a few yearrs ago, this list is not an hatchery or
nursery for such a project as an optacon III. This is unfortunate,
because the streamlined prototype -- or beyond a prototype -- for a
marketable optacon III was from 6 to 9 months to being finished, and
then would have been sent out for hands-on testing and evaluation.
Well, isn't that what the people wanted? A new optacon that does more
and better, costs far less, and can fit into today's world using a
viable technology which won't go away? I had planned to meet with
several PCB engineers this fall before the Feast Of Tabernacles to
optimize migration from caduceus coils to PCB, and finalizing the
orcad/pspice files. After having read more closely the static and
foolishness here, I will not be meeting with them any time soon. As far
as I am concerned from my end of things here, the public optacon III
project which was just shy of a critical consolidating phase is no
more. Dead.
As for poor richard, Oehm, he does not need fake news swirling about at
a time like this in his life. The several bored gossipy people on list
(thankfully but an hapless few) should really be ashamed of themselves,
and they should know better.
Write to me off list if you wish, Richard T., and I'll let you know what
goes if and when.

It appears that both Richard and Charles are alive and well, but some people
latch onto fake news and won't let it go.
Sounds too familiar these days.

Subject: [optacon-l] Richard Oehm is not dead!
Dear Listers,
Once again, we should be clear that our good friend, Richard Oehm, has not
died!
I'm restating this because rumors of his death persist. I was just contacted
by another friend who was upset because he had just heard that Richard was
deceased.
The totally false rumor of Richard's death came from a well intended
announcement on this Optacon list.
On June 27th, a member of this list posted an announcement of Marylin Oehm's
passing. However, the fingers of the person posting that announcement ended
up on the wrong keys of her keyboard, and she did not discover that it
resulted in her generating a garbled message that appeared to say incorrectly
that it was Richard, rather than his wife who had died.
Right after I read and correctly interpreted that garbled announcement, I
posted a clarification that it was not Richard who had passed. Subsequently
Richard also posted a clarification that he was not the one who was deceased.
If anyone on this list has innocently passed on the mistaken news of Richard
Oehm's passing to others, I would sincerely ask you to do your best to follow
up with folks, to clarify that Richard Oehm is still alive and planning to
continue his great work repairing Optacons and other access devices.
Respectfully,
Noel
