I hope one day information of a new optacon comes along and that I will hear
about it somewhere else, because as of this writing I'm unsubscribing from this
list that has degenerated to a mindless repetition of fake news.
It appears that both Richard and Charles are alive and well, but some people
latch onto fake news and won't let it go.
Sounds too familiar these days.

Dear Listers,
Once again, we should be clear that our good friend, Richard Oehm, has not died!
I'm restating this because rumors of his death persist. I was just contacted
by another friend who was upset because he had just heard that Richard was
deceased.
The totally false rumor of Richard's death came from a well intended
announcement on this Optacon list.
On June 27th, a member of this list posted an announcement of Marylin Oehm's
passing. However, the fingers of the person posting that announcement ended up
on the wrong keys of her keyboard, and she did not discover that it resulted in
her generating a garbled message that appeared to say incorrectly that it was
Richard, rather than his wife who had died.
Right after I read and correctly interpreted that garbled announcement, I
posted a clarification that it was not Richard who had passed. Subsequently
Richard also posted a clarification that he was not the one who was deceased.
If anyone on this list has innocently passed on the mistaken news of Richard
Oehm's passing to others, I would sincerely ask you to do your best to follow
up with folks, to clarify that Richard Oehm is still alive and planning to
continue his great work repairing Optacons and other access devices.
