I try to respond to the survey:
I have been using optacon for thirty-five years. I was in Japan and I got a
good training from a group of researchers at rehabilitation and research
center in Tokyo. I have since bought second machine from my girlfriend in
Japan, because, my original machine stopped working. But, it stopped
working shortly after I got the machine from her as well. Then several
years ago, I bought the third machine from CJ Sampson. His machine is still
working on and off. I mean it stops working often. It seems to have
problem with charging battery or something. But, it revives itself all the
sudden. It has no pattern as to how long it would work or how long it would
stop working. I tse optacon for reading money--American money does not have
any indication nor difference in sizes or touch. Also, I use optacon to
read labels on my clothes, canned goods, when I need to identify what is on
a piece of paper, checking if printed from computer looks fine, etc. I like
to buy optacon if it worked consistantly and well! I wish it is lighter and
not as bulky. As you could tell at this point I don't carry the machine
around as I am afraid of disconnecting the machine from the charger. I
still have all three machines. And, I do like to repair these machine with
someone I could really trust as a repair person. I do not want these
machines to get mixed up with others or sold to other people. When I spoke
with CJ about fixing my two old ones, he wanted me to sell these to him so
that he could fix them and sell them to others or something. I do not want
that deal happening at all. I hope there will be a new and completely
upgraded machine on the market, but, until then, I want to hold onto my
machines. even if I buy a new upgraded machine, I definitely keep the first
machine with me for as long as I live since this was bought by my father who
passed away nine years ago.
I don't think scanner does justice to me. It is so cumbersome to use them
and they can't be reading tags on clothes, and other odd shaped objects. I
am very visual totally blind person. So, I truly enjoy the different shapes
of letters and how it is presented. yes, from time to time, I read Japanese
as well as some hand written stuff in English and Japanese.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
Sara Tsutsumi
