HI Dan. Interesting. Do you have a 65-cell or an 80-cell model?
They can be mad to work under Windows using a USB-to-Serial dongl, but as
this point I haven't been able to get them to work with nVDA. The nVDA
folks gave some pointers about which drivers to use, so I'll try that.

Hello Charles,
You mentioned a PowerBraille display. I have a couple I would like to get
rid of. Do you need one? They do me absolutely no good as all of my
computers are windows-based, and serial to USB conversion isn't supported by
screenreaders anymore. I also have all the Braille displays I need to
function in Windows and with my iPhone. My PowerBraille displays are just
gathering dust in a closet so I would consider giving them away.

Actually, I still prefer and use WordPerfect 5.1+ in DOS, and I've never
been able quite to get comfy with MS-Office. I still have a working DOS
laptop with ScreenPower For Braille and a PowerBraille 40. Works great.
One can make WordPerfect run on Windows 7, but I don't know about Windows
10. For Windows 10 I use a shell overlay to make it work and feel better
and familiar. Yes I know, us Luddites.

I read "Windows 95 for Dummies" from cover to cover when I first got Windows
95, because I felt sort of lost after upgrading from Windows 3.1.
It was great to look at the screen shots with the optacon. It gave me a good
idea of what was where in the OS. That is about a 300-page book.

Wow Peter!
You and I need to do some Youtube videos of us doing all of these
things with our Optacon. I can̢۪t imagine being without one. I can
look up words in a dictionary as well, and also in the yellow pages.
When I was in high school, in the 80s, I felt so excited when I could
first find a friends phone number myself with the Optacon. I read my
home work with the Optacon. Like you, I filled out forms and checks
with the Optacon hooked to the typewriter. That is great Peter; I am so
encouraged, because most people on other tech lists have never heard of
the Optacon. It could help them so much.

This is a very interesting list, and many of these tasks are carried
out by me using the Optacon.
In addition, I have been able to distinguish whether batteries are
rechargeable or not if I have got them mixed up.
I have marked washing machine, tumble dryer, cooker, etc, by initially
using the Optacon.
I can check whether a display is lighting up if something is faulty.
If the Braille is not present on medication, I can read necessary
information with the Optacon.
Reading newspaper articles is much easier with the Optacon.
I was able to read the diagrams in the manual of my musical keyboard,
which enabled me to learn how to use the recording sequencer.
When printing anything, I always check the top and bottom line of each
document, to ensure that the printer is working properly.
I use the Optacon in conjunction with a typewriter when writing
greetings cards, filling in forms, voting in elections, etc.
I can read the labels on clothing if I want to check their colour or size.
The possibilities are endless, but I will finish with a funny story.
One day I was at work, and it went very dark outside. We also
had a power cut. One of the staff wanted to look up a word in a
dictionary, and couldn't see it. I took the book off him, and
looked up the word form him, and read the definition to him.
