Hello,
Please pardon my ignorance but for the most part this list seems to be doing
ok. There have been a few glitches but not many. What does a list owner do? Can
this list go on forever without an owner?
Wishing everyone well. I hope this list doesn't go away, or if it does, I can
get on the new one.

Dave,
There are links at the bottom of the posts on Freelists as well; when you
set up a group you can determine the verbage that appears at the bottom of
the lists as you noted was done with the Blind-Hams list on Groups.io that I
run. I did put in more options on the blind-hams list just for listers
convenience, pointing out how they could go digest, no-mail, etc. besides
the usual link for posting messages.
I suspect that most people would have to move themselves over to a new list
if we chose to go that route. Freelists will not move anybody automatically
on to a new list due to Canadian law; and I personally think it is bad
practice to mass-subscribe people to a list that I may create.
Groups.io is a bit different in that I could subscribe somebody directly -
or at least I could last time I did it about 18 months back - which can't
be done on Freelists.

I don't know much about list administration; but since it appears that the
administrator has "moved on" or something like that, and apparently nobody
has the admin credential for this list, I suggest the following approach:
Contact Freelist to see whether they could or would, for security
credentials, give the admin to anyone else, then perhaps someone should
start a new list, then post messages frequently to tell everyone the
needed information for the new list. That approach might be one way to
clean up everything. If a list is hosted on that Groups-IO listserve
where the Blind-Hams list resides, the system would automatically add
after the last post in a thread the information of links to post a
message, contact the list moderatorggness), and the like.
For my part, I am happy with the Optacon list, but I would definitely move
to another site if the list moves, so long as I have the new information.

Folks,
I already own a large list (Blind-hams), which has 385 members. I also
co-own two other lists on this site that are smaller and not too difficult
to moderate.
I thought Cathy in New York City might have also been involved with this
list creation, but possibly not. Don Bishop was the owner; and I don't
know if he game admin privilleges to anybody else - which is unfortunate.
The last I heard from him was in 2016.
If noone has admin privilleges to this list on Freelists, then because of
the way this list is set up, I have no clue on how many members there are
and I couldn't transfer members to any new list if I were to create one.

thank you for this. I did not know. Don was also a believer.
If someone wishes to continue an optacon list, either perhaps they can
contact freelists for the credentials, or simply collect the names of
those interested privately and form a new list. This was done when
Freedom Scientific was about to shut down their optacon list years ago.
Thank you again, Steve, and I am saddened by this.
